Rising floodwaters hit key thoroughfares across Metro Manila on Saturday, August 29, 2026, forcing commuters to wade through water-clogged streets and disrupting midday traffic across multiple cities.
According to a 12:00 PM bulletin from the Metro Manila Council Metro Manila Flood Control and Information Center (MMC-FCIC), heavy floodwaters have rendered specific vital intersections impassable to light vehicles, while several other major arterial roads remain passable despite gutter- to knee-deep inundation.
Severe Impasses Hit Southern Metro
The most severe traffic disruptions were recorded in the southern portion of the metropolis:
Las Piñas City: Floodwaters at the Zapote Junction in Barangay Zapote submerged roads to knee depth, making the critical intersection not passable to light vehicles.
Parañaque City: Along Dr. A. Santos Avenue, the stretch directly in front of SM Sucat saw waters swell from half-knee to full knee depth, prompting traffic authorities to declare the area not passable to light vehicles.
Other portions of Dr. A. Santos Avenue, specifically near Canaynay Avenue and Olivarez School, were submerged under gutter- to half-knee-deep waters but remained navigable for all transport types.
Commuters navigating northern and central Metro Manila faced widespread, albeit passable, road hazards:
Mandaluyong City: Boni Avenue corner F. Ortigas Street experienced gutter- to half-knee-deep flooding, with vehicles proceeding under cautious conditions.
City of Manila: Floodwaters along Taft Avenue northbound corner Quirino Avenue reached gutter to half-knee deep, though all lanes remained passable.
Quezon City: Key stretches along EDSA Oliveros northbound were reduced to a single passable lane due to gutter-deep flooding. Gutter-deep waters were also recorded along Balintawak northbound, the A. Bonifacio Cloverleaf southbound and Central Terminal northbound.
Valenzuela City: Multiple points along MacArthur Highway, including fronting Goodyear/Toyota, near Fatima Hospital, and the corners of T. Santiago and Karuhatan Road, reported below-gutter-deep flooding. All sections remained fully passable.
Malabon City: Mild to moderate inundation was monitored along F. Sevilla Boulevard (half-gutter to gutter deep), Gov. Pascual Avenue in Sitio 6 (half-gutter deep), as well as M.H. Del Pilar Street and Don Basilio Bautista (gutter deep).
Caloocan City: Drivers experienced below-gutter-deep waters at the C3 Road corner NLEX Connector and gutter-deep waters at Rizal Avenue corner 10th Avenue eastbound.
Traffic management agencies and local disaster risk reduction offices advise motorists, commuters, and public transit operators to exercise extreme caution, anticipate heavy delays and seek alternative routes around severe flood zones. Light vehicles are strongly urged to avoid the Zapote Junction and the SM Sucat segment of Dr. A. Santos Avenue until waters recede.
