dwta and Arthur Miguel Find a Softer Kind of Love in ‘At Kung Sakali’

dwta and Arthur Miguel have a small problem with their newest song: they wrote about being happily in love while neither of them is actually in a relationship.

For two singer-songwriters who have become comfortable writing from the bruised side of romance, perhaps that makes “At Kung Sakali” even more interesting.

“We’re both actually known for making heartbreak songs, so it was fun to make something that’s warmer and purer this time,” dwta said.

The new single catches the pair imagining a relationship beyond the first confession and beyond heartbreak. It asks a more grown-up question: What happens when you begin picturing an actual future with someone, knowing there are no guarantees that future will happen?

May be an image of one or more people and violin

That uncertainty sits at the heart of “At Kung Sakali,” which uses the familiar Filipino childhood idea of bahay-bahayan as part of its imagery—playing house, imagining a shared life and confronting the doubts that inevitably come with it. The song ultimately settles on choosing love despite not knowing exactly where it will lead.

From Heartbreak to Something Warmer

There is also a neat emotional progression across dwta and Arthur’s three collaborations.

Their first, “Lihim (Nuarin Sasabihon),” centered on confessing feelings. “Tahan Na” moved into heartbreak and hope. Now “At Kung Sakali” finds them writing about actually being in love.

Or, as dwta puts it, entering their “in-love” era.

The irony isn’t lost on her.

“This time, we’re in our ‘in-love’ era even though we’re both happily single,” she said.

But “At Kung Sakali” represents a change beyond subject matter.

The previous songs may have carried both artists’ names, but the writing itself was individual: Arthur wrote “Lihim,” while dwta wrote “Tahan Na.” This time, they sat down together and tried writing something from scratch.

There wasn’t even supposed to be a single at the end of the session.

“We didn’t even have any plans to release it or anything,” dwta recalled. “We just wanted to see what we could come up with.”

They came up with the song in roughly half a day.

A Collaboration That Became a Friendship

That kind of spontaneity makes more sense in the context of the pair’s history.

dwta and Arthur first collaborated in 2023. Somewhere between exchanging songs and returning for another project, the professional partnership developed into a friendship.

“I think one of the reasons we keep coming back to working with each other is because of the friendship we built since our first collaboration back in 2023,” dwta said.

That familiarity changed how they approached the new material. Instead of one artist handing the other a finished composition, they could test ideas together and see where the writing went.

Producer Luke April later joined them for the production, which took place on a separate day. By then, what had started as an experiment between friends had attracted the interest of their team.

“After we finished writing the song, our team really liked it, so we decided to release it,” dwta said.

And perhaps that accidental beginning suits the song better than an elaborate plan would have.

“At Kung Sakali” doesn’t promise that love works out perfectly. Its premise is built around the opposite: people cannot know how the life they imagine together will unfold.

For dwta and Arthur Miguel, the song itself arrived through a similarly uncertain process. Two friends went into a room without plans for a release, spent half a day writing together for the first time, and walked out with the third chapter of a musical partnership that has now moved from confession, through heartbreak, and finally toward love.

“At Kung Sakali” is out now on digital music platforms.
