PNP Deploys 689 Cops, Sustains Police Presence in Habagat-Hit Communities

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has reinforced its disaster response operations and assured a continued police presence in communities affected by heavy rains brought by the enhanced southwest monsoon, or habagat.

PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. confirmed that police units remain deployed nationwide to assist residents in vulnerable areas. The deployment follows directives from President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. and Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla to strengthen disaster response efforts and protect affected communities.

“Our priority is to keep our personnel and resources where they are most needed. We will continue rescue and evacuation operations, secure evacuation centers, clear critical roads and deliver assistance to communities that remain affected,” Nartatez said.

So far, police teams have rescued 180 individuals and supported 164 relief operations. A total of 689 personnel have been mobilized for disaster response, with patrol vehicles, buses and trucks deployed to provide Libreng Sakay services for stranded commuters.

“I commend our personnel who continue serving despite difficult conditions. I remind you to remain compassionate and professional even in difficult conditions,” Nartatez said.

Police units have also been instructed to step up monitoring in flood-prone areas and maintain peace and order in evacuation centers. Additionally, the PNP has strengthened its coordination with local government units, disaster response agencies and volunteers to facilitate the timely delivery of aid.

“To our fellow Filipinos who are still waiting for assistance, your PNP is here to help. We will continue coordinating with local governments and other response agencies to reach you and bring you to safety,” Nartatez said.
