President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. confirmed that he intends to throw his support behind a successor in the 2028 presidential race, seeking a candidate capable of sustaining his administration’s programs while driving new national initiatives.
Speaking at the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines (FOCAP) presidential luncheon in Manila, Marcos stated that while an endorsement is certain, he has yet to settle on a specific candidate.
“I will certainly endorse a candidate in the 2028 elections,” Marcos said. “We will choose the best possible candidate who will continue what we have started, and who will bring even new and hopefully even better initiatives to the development of our country.”
Marcos noted that his ruling political party, Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, remains open to fielding a standard-bearer or forming strategic coalitions with other political groups to endorse a joint ticket. However, he emphasized that the political landscape remains fluid and that making a decision at this point would be premature, as Vice President Sara Duterte remains the only politician to publicly declare a 2028 presidential bid.
