  • July 15, 2026

More than 1,200 residents were displaced after a fifth-alarm fire destroyed or damaged 321 houses in two Tondo barangays on July 14, prompting the Manila City Government to launch relief operations.

A final report from District Welfare Office II showed that 321 families, or 1,231 individuals, were affected in Barangays 163 and 152.

Barangay 163 recorded 311 displaced families comprising 1,190 individuals, while Barangay 152 reported 10 families or 41 residents affected.

Of the 321 houses hit by the blaze, 272 were completely destroyed and 49 sustained partial damage.

The fire broke out at around 4:03 p.m., reached the fifth alarm and was declared extinguished at approximately 7:16 p.m.

Authorities have yet to determine its cause.

The Manila Department of Social Welfare immediately distributed hot meals to displaced residents as authorities continued assessing the damage.

The city government said affected families would also receive financial assistance, food boxes and family kits as part of continuing relief and recovery efforts.
