TNVS Rider Nabbed Selling Alleged Stolen Meralco Wire In Cavite

A 28-year-old transport network vehicle service rider was arrested after allegedly attempting to sell electrical wire owned by the Manila Electric Company in Dasmariñas City, Cavite, authorities said.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group identified the suspect only as alias “Ador,” a resident of Barangay Tunasan in Muntinlupa City.

The CIDG said the operation was conducted at around 1:12 p.m. on July 7 in Barangay Langkaan 1 by its Regional Special Operations Team, Regional Field Unit 4A, and Cavite Provincial Field Unit, in coordination with Meralco representatives.

Authorities confiscated approximately 61 meters of electrical wire allegedly stolen from Meralco. The recovered material was valued at P5,108.54.

The operation stemmed from a complaint filed by Meralco over the alleged theft and sale of electrical wires owned by the company.

The suspect faces possible charges for violation of Sections 2 and 3 of Republic Act No. 7832, or the Anti-Electricity and Electric Transmission Lines/Materials Pilferage Act of 1994.

CIDG Director Police Major General Robert Morico II said the law seeks to curb electricity theft, pilferage of electrical materials, and tampering with power infrastructure.

Morico said such activities cause revenue losses for electricity providers, contribute to higher power rates for legitimate consumers, damage infrastructure, and pose risks to public safety.

The CIDG said the operation reflects its strengthened partnership with Meralco in combating the theft and pilferage of power distribution equipment and materials.

The PNP and Meralco renewed their memorandum of understanding at Camp Crame on June 8 to enhance cooperation in investigations, law enforcement operations, and the implementation of Republic Act No. 7832.

The partnership also seeks to raise public awareness about the dangers and legal consequences of using stolen electric meters, cables, and wires.

The CIDG leadership commended Regional Field Unit 4A, headed by Police Colonel Ganaban Ali, for the arrest and recovery of the allegedly stolen electrical material.

The CIDG and Meralco said they will continue coordinating to investigate and prosecute individuals involved in electricity pilferage.
