The government’s Unified 911 Emergency System has helped reduce emergency response times and provide faster medical assistance to Filipinos in life-threatening situations, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said.
Implemented under the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the Unified 911 system provides the public with a single, accessible emergency hotline while improving coordination among police, fire, medical, and rescue agencies across the country.
The system is designed to ensure faster and more efficient response during critical incidents, where immediate action can mean the difference between life and death.
In less than a year since its launch, Unified 911 has facilitated 37,858 medical assistance responses nationwide, giving thousands of Filipinos quicker access to emergency care.
The DILG cited several incidents where the system helped connect patients to responders within minutes.
In Toledo City, Cebu, a 68-year-old resident who showed symptoms of a possible mild stroke called the Unified 911 hotline. The call was immediately relayed to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, whose responders brought the patient to the nearest hospital for urgent treatment.
In Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City, emergency responders were also dispatched to assist a 19-year-old worker who suffered second-degree burns on both arms, upper back, and shoulders after an electrocution accident. Responders provided first aid at the scene before bringing the victim to Mactan Doctors Hospital.
In Trece Martires City, Cavite, a Unified 911 call reporting a 23-year-old patient suffering from hyperventilation and seizures enabled responders to quickly reach the area and transport the patient to Gentri Doctors Hospital.
The DILG said all three incidents were responded to within five minutes from the time the emergency calls were received, showing how the system can rapidly connect callers with the proper emergency responders during critical situations.
The department said the cases highlight the continuing impact of Unified 911 in strengthening emergency response nationwide, with faster coordination leading to quicker medical intervention and better chances of saving lives.
The DILG also reaffirmed its commitment to further expand Unified 911 coverage and strengthen the capabilities of emergency responders to ensure that Filipinos can rely on immediate, coordinated, and life-saving assistance during emergencies.
