Palace Vows Price Relief Measures As June Inflation Slows

Malacañang on Tuesday assured the public that the government will continue pursuing measures to bring down commodity prices and ease the financial burden on Filipino families after headline inflation slowed in June.

The Presidential Communications Office issued the statement after inflation eased to 6.4 percent in June from 6.8 percent in May.

“Kasabay ng pagbagal ng inflation sa bansa nitong Hunyo, patuloy ang mga hakbang ng pamahalaan upang mapanatiling abot-kaya ang mga pangunahing bilihin at mapagaan ang gastusin ng mga pamilyang Pilipino (As the country’s inflation slowed down this June, the government continued its efforts to keep basic commodities affordable and ease the financial burden on Filipino families),” the PCO said.

Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority showed that the June figure brought the average inflation rate from January to June to 4.8 percent.

The PSA attributed the slowdown mainly to lower transport inflation, which eased to 12.8 percent in June from 16.2 percent in May.

Inflation for food and non-alcoholic beverages also slowed to 5.2 percent from 5.7 percent, helping temper the overall rise in consumer prices.

The PCO said the government will continue working to keep essential goods affordable as Filipino households remain affected by elevated prices.
