The Department of Energy is studying a Swedish-backed proposal to introduce modular fuel-producing units in the Philippines, a move aimed at strengthening the country’s energy security and expanding access to cleaner fuel technologies.
The proposal was discussed in a meeting between the DOE and Business Sweden, led by Energy Undersecretary Alessandro O. Sales.
According to the DOE, the talks centered on stackable modular systems that can produce “drop-in” fuels such as gasoline, diesel, liquefied petroleum gas, and jet fuel from various feedstocks, including ethanol and fatty acids.
The agency said the discussions focused on the technology’s efficiency, feedstock sustainability, and cost competitiveness to determine whether it could be applied in the Philippines.
