Malacañang dismissed Senator Imee Marcos’ claim that the administration of her brother, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., is a “gobyernong tulog” and “lasing sa kapangyarihan,” accusing the senator of spreading fake news and sowing hate.
Palace Press Officer Clare Castro said the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), as the lead agency in the government’s campaign against fake news, views the senator’s remarks as an attempt to stir public anger against the government and malign the President and his administration.
“Nakakaawa, nakakaawa ang mga obstructionist na tulad ng isang senadora. Nagri-rely, gumagamit ng fake news para makapanira lamang at para maikalat ang mga ganitong klaseng maling impormasyon (It is pitiful, pitiful for obstructionists like a senator. Relying, using fake news just to slander and to spread this kind of false information),” Castro said.
Castro said what was more unfortunate was that some people were applauding the senator’s statements without realizing that, according to her, the pronouncements were baseless and empty stories meant to mislead the public.
She also questioned the timing of Marcos’ latest tirades, asking why the senator remained “silent” and did not call for any investigation when Vice President Sara Duterte’s father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, admitted to committing some illegal actions, such as using illegal drugs.
Senator Marcos, during the INC rally on Tuesday, criticized the administration as a “gobyernong tulog” and “lasing sa kapangyarihan,” saying it had failed to address pressing domestic issues and uplift the lives of Filipinos.
