The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) evacuated an injured seafarer from a foreign vessel off Bacnotan, La Union on June 28, underscoring the agency’s role in responding to maritime emergencies and protecting workers at sea.
The PCG, through Coast Guard Station La Union, said the 36-year-old oiler aboard MV Mineral Eire suffered a fracture in his left lower leg after he was struck by vessel equipment while on duty.
After receiving the report, CGS La Union deployed a composite medical evacuation team and coordinated with maritime stakeholders to safely transfer the injured crew member from the vessel.
The seafarer was moved at the designated rendezvous point and transported aboard MTUG Polaris Princess to the San Fernando International Seaport.
He was later turned over to a Bureau of Quarantine ambulance and brought to Lorma Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.
Coast Guard District North Western Luzon said the operation reflects the PCG’s continuing commitment to timely emergency response and to safeguarding the welfare of seafarers in Philippine waters.
