As Filipino cuisine continues to earn global recognition, another Filipino culinary professional proves that the country’s talent belongs on the world stage.

Stephen Raymundo, a Filipino chef at London’s iconic Claridge’s hotel, has been crowned Young Chef of the Year at the prestigious World Young Chef Young Waiter Young Mixologist (YYY) England Finals 2026, marking another milestone for Filipino excellence.

Held at The Peninsula London, the competition gathered England’s brightest young hospitality professionals for a rigorous two-day showcase of skill, creativity, professionalism, and composure under pressure. From over 100 entrants nationwide, only 12 finalists reached the national finals, where Raymundo emerged victorious against some of the country’s finest young chefs.

His win is more than a personal achievement—it underscores the growing influence of Filipino chefs in the world’s most celebrated kitchens.

At Claridge’s, Raymundo impressed a distinguished panel of judges with his technical precision, innovation, organization, and calm execution. The title also earns him the honor of representing England at the World YYY Finals, competing against top young culinary talents worldwide.

Founded in 1979, the Young Chef Young Waiter Young Mixologist competition is one of the hospitality industry’s most respected talent development platforms. Over the decades, it has helped launch the careers of internationally acclaimed chefs such as Gordon Ramsay, Marcus Wareing, Theo Randall, and Mark Sargeant. Raymundo now joins this distinguished lineage—a remarkable feat for a Filipino chef building his career overseas.

His victory also coincides with the growing international attention on Filipino cuisine. From Michelin-recognized restaurants to award-winning chefs introducing local flavors globally, Philippine cuisine is steadily entering the culinary mainstream. Raymundo’s success adds another inspiring chapter, proving that Filipino professionals are earning recognition for their mastery, discipline, and creativity in highly competitive kitchens.

The England Finals also crowned Alex Coward of HIDE as Young Waiter of the Year and Juni Guthrie of Sexy Fish as Young Mixologist of the Year. Together, the three champions will represent England at the upcoming World YYY Finals.

Despite challenges in Britain’s hospitality industry, including rising operating costs and economic uncertainty, the competition highlighted the resilience and promise of a new generation of hospitality professionals.

For Filipinos, Raymundo’s triumph resonates beyond the competition. It reflects the determination, world-class work ethic, and exceptional talent that have long defined Filipino hospitality professionals globally. His achievement serves as both a source of national pride and an inspiration for aspiring Filipino chefs aiming to make their mark internationally.
