Japan Raises Visa Fees Up to 400% Starting July

Japan will significantly increase visa application fees starting July 1, in a move that raises entry costs for foreign travelers and marks the first major adjustment to its visa fee structure in decades.

Under the revised rates, a single-entry visa will cost 15,000 yen (about P5,850), up from 3,000 yen (around P1,170). Multiple-entry visas will increase to 30,000 yen (about P11,700), from 6,000 yen (about P2,340).

The new fees will apply to all applications submitted from July 1 onward, covering tourists, students, and business travelers processed through Japanese embassies and consulates worldwide, including in the Philippines.

Japanese authorities said the adjustment reflects rising administrative costs linked to visa processing and related consular services. Officials also described the revision as part of a broader update to government fee structures.

The change is the first major revision of Japan’s visa fee schedule in nearly 48 years, according to government announcements.

Despite the sharp increase, Japanese officials said they do not expect an immediate impact on inbound travel demand, citing continued strong interest in Japan as a destination.

Japan remains one of the most popular overseas destinations for Filipino travelers, supported by tourism, education, and employment-related travel.

Further guidance is expected from Japanese embassies and consulates ahead of the implementation date.
