Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian has raised alarm and outrage over the school shooting at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City that killed three students and injured several others.
“I am deeply alarmed and outraged by the school shooting incident this morning at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, which claimed the lives of three learners and wounded five others. Hindi katanggap-tanggap na umaabot ang ganitong klaseng karahasan sa mga paaralang dapat nagsisilbing ligtas na espasyo,” he said.
He warned that the latest incident adds to a growing pattern of violence in schools, citing reports that seven students were also injured in separate stabbing incidents in Cavite just last week.
“Lubhang nakakabahala ang magkakasunod na mga karahasang ito sa loob ng mga paaralan at nangangailangan ng agaran at magkakaugnay na pagkilos,” Gatchalian said.
The Senate leader urged law enforcement to intensify efforts to arrest the remaining suspect and ensure swift accountability.
He also called on the Department of Education to immediately deploy psychosocial support for affected students, teachers, and school personnel, while reinforcing security measures in all campuses nationwide.
