Three people were killed and seven others were wounded in a shooting incident inside San Jose National High School in Tacloban City on Monday morning, authorities said, with two student suspects now in police custody.
Initial reports from the Eastern Visayas police regional office showed the incident happened around 9 am in Barangay San Jose, triggering a rapid lockdown and police response inside the campus.
Responding officers immediately secured the area and evacuated students, teachers, and school personnel while emergency teams rushed the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The Tacloban City Police Office condemned the incident and said it has launched a full investigation to determine the circumstances, identify all persons involved, and establish the motive behind the attack.
Authorities said additional police personnel were deployed to the school and surrounding areas to ensure security and prevent further incidents, while follow-up investigative work remains ongoing.
Police also confirmed that two suspects—both students—were arrested shortly after the incident. A separate manhunt continues as investigators verify whether additional individuals may have been involved.
The Eastern Visayas police regional office urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information, stressing that cooperation and credible leads will be crucial to the ongoing investigation.
Officials said the priority remains securing the school community, supporting the victims, and determining the full context of the shooting inside the campus.
