No Arrests Without Valid Court Orders; PNP Committed to Due Process

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it will strictly adhere to legal procedures and will not carry out any arrest operations without a valid court-issued warrant, emphasizing its commitment to due process and judicial independence.

PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said all police actions remain anchored on the rule of law, following reports involving claims that a warrant could be issued against Senator Rodante Marcoleta in connection with plunder and indirect bribery allegations.

Nartatez clarified that the police have not issued any operational directive involving Marcoleta and stressed that the organization does not act on unverified information or speculation.

The statement comes after the senator reportedly claimed he had received information about a possible arrest warrant linked to alleged undisclosed campaign donations amounting to P75 million in the previous elections.

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla also noted that he is not aware of any case filed against the senator, adding that arrest warrants can only be issued once a case is properly lodged before the courts, including the Sandiganbayan for cases under its jurisdiction.

Police officials reiterated that warrant-related matters fall exclusively under judicial authority, and law enforcement agencies act only upon formal court orders.

Nartatez said the PNP remains a professional and non-partisan institution, committed to maintaining peace and order while respecting constitutional rights and the independence of the judiciary.

He added that the public should rely only on verified legal processes, stressing that all police operations must be grounded in lawful directives from competent courts.
