The Philippine National Police–Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) conducted a series of anti-carnapping operations on June 16, 2026, resulting in the arrest of wanted individuals and the recovery of a vehicle linked to a rent-tangay scheme in separate operations across Rizal, Metro Manila, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

In Taytay, Rizal, a joint tracker team arrested a provincial-level most wanted person for violation of Republic Act No. 10883 or the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016. The suspect was apprehended by virtue of a warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court of San Juan City, with bail recommended at P300,000.

In a separate operation, personnel of the Provincial Highway Patrol Team (PHPT) Ifugao under the Regional Highway Patrol Unit–Cordillera Administrative Region served a warrant of arrest on a detainee at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City. The case also stemmed from alleged carnapping violations under the same law, with bail set at P300,000.

Meanwhile, in the BARMM, operatives of the Special Operations Team of the RHPU-BAR recovered a Mitsubishi Mirage sedan linked to a rent-tangay scheme after it was tracked using a GPS device. The operation in Barangay Salimbao, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao del Norte also led to the arrest of two male suspects found in possession of the vehicle.

Authorities said the arrested individuals were informed of their constitutional rights and are undergoing proper legal procedures. The recovered vehicle has been placed under police custody for forensic examination and disposition.

PNP-HPG Director Police Brig. Gen. Rommel Batangan commended the operating units, citing their coordinated and intelligence-driven operations.

“These accomplishments reflect the commitment of our personnel to pursue carnapping offenders and recover unlawfully possessed motor vehicles through intelligence-driven operations, inter-unit coordination, and the effective use of technology,” Batangan said.

He added that the HPG will continue intensifying nationwide anti-carnapping operations and urged the public to promptly report suspicious motor vehicle-related activities to authorities.
