The death toll from the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Sarangani has climbed to 68, while more than 1.4 million individuals have been affected, according to the latest situation report of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) as of 6 am on June 17, 2026.

Data from the OCD showed that Region XI recorded 11 fatalities—10 in Davao Occidental and one in Davao del Sur—while Region XII accounted for 57 deaths, including 33 in Sarangani and 24 in South Cotabato.

Authorities also reported 33 persons still missing, with search and retrieval operations ongoing in Davao Occidental, Sarangani, and South Cotabato.

The number of injured has reached 1,339, with South Cotabato recording the highest at 948 cases, followed by Sarangani with 189. Additional casualties were reported across other affected provinces in Regions XI and XII, as well as in Basilan under the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Overall, 339,254 families—or approximately 1,417,078 individuals—have been affected by the disaster. Of this number, 4,464 families, or nearly 19,800 people, are currently taking shelter in 45 evacuation centers.

Widespread destruction was also reported in residential areas, with 13,652 homes totally destroyed and 60,281 partially damaged.

Infrastructure damage has been significant, with 774 structures affected and total losses estimated at P1.29 billion. The agriculture sector also sustained P29.8 million in damages, particularly in parts of Davao del Norte and Davao del Sur.

In response, 14 municipalities across Davao Occidental, Sarangani, and South Cotabato have been placed under a state of calamity to facilitate faster relief and rehabilitation efforts.

Authorities said government assistance continues to be rolled out, with P160.9 million in aid already distributed to affected families and an additional P8.1 million released to local government units to support ongoing response operations.
