The House of Representatives has expressed full support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call for a special session of Congress on June 17, saying the move will help fast-track priority measures aimed at strengthening social protection, education, healthcare, and other key public services.
Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III said the special session provides an opportunity to complete legislative action on measures that directly address the needs of Filipino families, noting that the House is ready to work with the Senate and the Executive branch to ensure timely passage of key reforms.
He said the House has already approved all measures identified under the President’s Proclamation No. 1318 for the special session, including bills creating a National Center for Geriatric Health, amendments to the Government Assistance to Students and Teachers in Private Education (GASTPE) Act, the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program, and reforms to the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act (UAQTEA).
Also included are proposals on last-mile and geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA) schools, the Masustansyang Pagkain Para sa Batang Pilipino Act, the Anti-Political Dynasty bill, and the Presidential Merit Scholarship Program.
Before adjourning sine die on June 3, the House said it had already acted on 26 measures under the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) agenda, with one enacted into law, several undergoing bicameral deliberations, and the rest approved on third reading.
House Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos said the President’s call reflects the urgency of passing measures that expand access to education, healthcare, and social protection, especially for vulnerable sectors.
He said the House remains committed to working with the Senate and the Executive to complete the legislative process and ensure that priority bills are enacted into laws that deliver tangible benefits to the public.
Lawmakers said the special session underscores the administration’s push to accelerate reforms while building on the House’s ongoing efforts to advance social services, governance improvements, and economic resilience measures.
