The Philippine National Police (PNP) has maintained heightened visibility and security operations as more private schools, particularly in urban centers, resumed classes on June 15, ensuring continued safety measures for students, teachers, and school personnel.
PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the deployment and assistance measures implemented during the June 8 class opening will remain in place, including police visibility near schools, traffic assistance, and coordination with local government units and school administrations.
“We want to assure everybody that the peace and order measures we implemented for the June 8 class opening will remain for the safety of both the students and teachers and the peace of mind of their parents,” Nartatez said.
The directive follows instructions from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla to prioritize the safety of learners and educators during the start of the academic calendar.
Authorities earlier reported that the June 8 opening of classes was generally peaceful and orderly, attributing the outcome to coordinated planning from national headquarters down to local police units.
The PNP said coordination with local government units and school authorities was prepared ahead of the staggered opening dates of schools nationwide, with attention given to traffic impacts in major urban corridors, particularly in Metro Manila.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has also warned of expected traffic congestion with the resumption of classes in private schools, deploying personnel in school zones and major intersections to manage road flow.
In support, the PNP said police units have been placed along major thoroughfares to help ease bottlenecks during peak school hours, with intensified coordination with traffic agencies expected in the coming days.
Authorities reiterated their call for road users to observe traffic regulations and cooperate with enforcers as increased movement of students and vehicles is expected during the opening of classes.
