Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Gains Ground in PH as Recovery Support Tech

A medical technology used in rehabilitation and recovery care worldwide is drawing renewed attention in the Philippines, following the introduction of a hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) system that was showcased in Manila as part of ongoing healthcare innovation efforts.

HBOT is a medical treatment that delivers near-pure oxygen inside a pressurized chamber, allowing the body to absorb significantly higher oxygen levels than under normal atmospheric conditions. It is being explored in clinical and rehabilitative settings for its potential to support tissue repair, improve oxygen delivery to injured areas, and aid recovery processes.

The Bargën HBOT system, originally manufactured in Indonesia, was presented as part of a broader push to expand access to oxygen-based therapy technology in Southeast Asia, including potential applications in Philippine hospitals and wellness centers. The system is among several HBOT configurations being introduced for medical, rehabilitation, and research use.

Health professionals say HBOT may help support wound healing, reduce inflammation, and assist in post-surgical and injury recovery by enhancing oxygen concentration in targeted tissues. It is also being studied for broader applications in long-term rehabilitation and regenerative wellness programs.

The technology introduced includes single-patient chambers, multi-patient systems designed for controlled clinical environments, and specialized units being explored for veterinary and research purposes—reflecting the expanding scope of hyperbaric medicine.

Medical experts presenting the system emphasized controlled oxygen dosing and pressure protocols as key factors in maximizing therapeutic outcomes while maintaining patient safety. They also highlighted ongoing efforts to refine clinical guidelines as adoption grows.

Healthcare institutions and rehabilitation specialists in the Philippines who attended the presentation expressed interest in its potential role in wound care management, recovery programs, and supportive therapy for chronic conditions.

Financial stakeholders also explored possible support mechanisms for hospitals and clinics considering acquisition of hyperbaric systems, given the capital-intensive nature of the technology.

While HBOT is increasingly being integrated into modern medical discussions, health experts stress that it remains an adjunct therapy in many settings and requires further clinical validation and regulatory oversight to define its full range of applications in the Philippine healthcare system.
