Members of the Metro Manila Solid Waste Management Board–Technical Working Group (MMSWMB-TWG) held their 2nd Quarter Alignment Meeting for 2026, reaffirming efforts to strengthen solid waste management across the National Capital Region through coordinated action among local government units and partner agencies.

The meeting was led by MMDA Deputy Chairman Usec. Frisco San Juan Jr., who underscored the importance of personal discipline and shared responsibility in proper waste disposal, noting its role in preventing garbage from reaching waterways and worsening environmental degradation.

Pateros Mayor Gerald German, who attended the meeting, expressed appreciation for the continued cooperation among member local governments and highlighted ongoing initiatives in his municipality despite its size, saying Pateros continues to implement programs aimed at improving sustainable waste management practices.

Representatives from Pateros, Parañaque City, and Valenzuela City presented their respective best practices and local innovations, with the aim of encouraging knowledge-sharing and adoption of effective waste management strategies across Metro Manila.

Solid Waste Management Office Director Remedios Asprer thanked participating agencies for their continued cooperation, citing their collective efforts in advancing more effective waste management programs in the region.

The meeting also tackled Performance-Based Grants (PBGs) under the Clean Metro Manila Project, part of Phase 1 of the Clean Philippines Vertical Multiphase Programmatic Approach, with guidance provided by World Bank representatives on requirements and implementation opportunities for local government units.

Officials said the alignment meeting highlights the importance of sustained collaboration among national agencies, local governments, and development partners in advancing cleaner and more environmentally resilient communities across Metro Manila.
