Seventeen flights were affected after operations at General Santos Airport were temporarily suspended following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Sarangani and a tsunami warning issued by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology or Phivolcs, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said.

CAAP said assessments are now being conducted on the airport’s air navigation facilities, equipment, and operational capability to ensure the safety and integrity of airport operations before services resume.

“Assessments of air navigation facilities, equipment, and operational capabilities are currently underway to ensure the continued safety and integrity of airport operations,” CAAP said in a statement.

The agency advised passengers to coordinate directly with their airlines for the latest updates on flight status and possible schedule changes.

“Passengers are advised to coordinate with their respective airlines for updates on the status of their flights,” CAAP added.

Cebu Pacific accounted for 11 of the affected flights, including Iloilo-General Santos flights 5J 4843 and 4844; Cebu-General Santos flights 5J 249 and 250; Manila-General Santos flights 5J 993 and 994, 5J 995 and 996, and 5J 991 and 992; and General Santos-Manila flight 5J 998.

PAL Express reported four affected flights: Cebu-General Santos flights 2P 2357 and 2358, and Manila-General Santos flights 2P 2455 and 2456.

Philippine Airlines also had two affected flights: Manila-General Santos flights PR 453 and PR 454.
