‘Maleta Boys’ May Have Been Used in Flood Control Case

A senior statesman in the Senate on Monday said he sympathizes with the 18 so-called “maleta boys,” saying they may have been used in the preparation of a joint affidavit linked to alleged kickbacks from anomalous flood control projects.

Sen. Vicente “Tito” Sotto III said information from the National Bureau of Investigation suggested that the affidavit was allegedly prepared by another party for media purposes.

He said his name appeared to have been “somehow inserted” into the joint affidavit, even though he was not mentioned in five individual affidavits.

“I actually sympathize with the 18 ex-bodyguards because it seems like they are really being used. It’s sad because later on they might be the ones who will take the blame for all the wrongdoings of the one who prepared the joint affidavit,” Sotto said.
