The Philippine Navy is sending BRP Miguel Malvar to Hawaii later this month to take part in Rim of the Pacific 2026, one of the world’s largest multinational maritime exercises.
Navy spokesperson Capt. Marissa Martinez said the Philippine Navy will participate in the 30th iteration of Rimpac from June 24 to July 31 in and around the Hawaiian Islands.
“The Philippine Navy is set to participate in the 30th iteration of the Rim of the Pacific or Rimpac exercise from June 24 to July 31, 2026, in and around the Hawaiian Islands,” Martinez said in a press briefing at Camp Aguinaldo.
The biennial exercise, hosted by the United States Navy through the US Pacific Fleet, will bring together participating nations to strengthen interoperability, maritime partnerships and collective readiness across a wide range of operations.
This year’s exercise carries the theme “Partners: Integrated and Prepared.”
Martinez said BRP Miguel Malvar, one of the Navy’s guided-missile frigates, will represent the Philippines in the exercise along with its crew and personnel.
The warship is scheduled for a send-off ceremony on Thursday at the Naval Operating Base in Subic, Zambales, to be led by Navy chief Vice Admiral Jose Ma. Ambrosio Ezpeleta.
“As navies from across the globe converge in the Pacific for one of the world’s most significant multinational maritime exercises, the Philippine Navy once again takes part in the Rim of the Pacific exercise 2026, reinforcing its growing role in regional maritime cooperation and interoperability,” the Navy said in an advisory.
The Navy said its participation highlights its commitment to operational excellence, international defense engagement and the development of a more capable and mission-ready maritime force alongside allies and partner nations.
The Philippine Navy joined Rimpac 2024 by sending observers. It had planned to deploy a frigate and a landing dock for that exercise, but the deployment did not push through due to operational exigencies.
