Former Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel Bonoan has been placed under hospital arrest after his blood pressure reportedly spiked while he was undergoing processing following his surrender to authorities.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla confirmed that Bonoan voluntarily surrendered to the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group after the Sandiganbayan issued a warrant for his arrest in connection with the plunder case linked to alleged irregularities in flood control projects.
Remulla said Bonoan was being processed by police when his blood pressure rose, prompting authorities to bring him to a hospital for medical attention.
The former Cabinet official was placed under police custody while receiving treatment. Reports identified the facility as the PNP General Hospital.
Bonoan was among those ordered arrested by the anti-graft court over charges related to alleged anomalies in flood control projects.
Authorities have not released further details on his medical condition as of posting.
Legal proceedings in the case are expected to continue while Bonoan remains under government custody.
