Vietnamese President Tô Lâm arrived in Manila on Sunday for a two-day state visit aimed at strengthening cooperation between the Philippines and Vietnam ahead of major diplomatic milestones between the two countries.

Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. welcomed Lâm at Villamor Air Base in Pasay City, where the Vietnamese leader arrived aboard a Vietnam Airlines flight at 12:40 pm.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is set to meet Lâm in Malacañang on Monday for bilateral talks expected to cover trade and investment, food security, defense, maritime cooperation, education, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.

The Presidential Communications Office said the visit comes as Manila and Hanoi approach the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 10th year of their strategic partnership.

Lâm is visiting the Philippines in his capacity as Vietnam’s president and General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

While in Manila, the Vietnamese leader is also scheduled to lead a wreath-laying ceremony at Rizal Park and attend the Vietnam-Philippines Business Forum.
