Two Army Trainees Die After Collapsing During Training in Tarlac

Two male trainees died after collapsing during a training activity inside the Philippine Army’s Training Command in Capas, Tarlac, the Army said Friday.

Army spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala said the trainees collapsed at around 1 pm Tuesday while they were in formation after lunch and before a scheduled classroom lecture.

“During the formation, the two collapsed,” Dema-ala said.

The trainees were immediately brought to a hospital but were declared dead Tuesday night.

Dema-ala said hot weather in Tarlac was among the initial factors being looked into as a possible contributor to the incident.

“One of the factors we’re looking into is weather. This is just the initial, it’s so hot in Tarlac,” he said.

The Army has launched a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances behind the deaths.

“We will not speculate. We ask the public to allow the investigation to proceed and to avoid spreading unverified claims that may cause further distress to the families,” Dema-ala said.

He said the Army is also reviewing its training protocols and enforcing stricter measures where necessary to ensure the safety of personnel.

“Training is inherently demanding, but it must always be conducted within established safety standards,” Dema-ala said.

The Army extended condolences to the families of the two trainees, whose identities were withheld, and said it is providing them full support and assistance.
