911 Call Leads to Arrest of BJMP Personnel Over Alleged Gun Threat in Tondo

A 31-year-old personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) was arrested in Tondo, Manila after a Unified 911 emergency call reported an alleged firearm threat and indiscriminate firing inside a residential community, police said.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said the suspect was arrested on May 15, 2026, for alleged violation of Republic Act No. 11926, or the Anti-Indiscriminate Firing Act, as well as grave threat under Article 282 and alarms and scandals under Article 155 of the Revised Penal Code.

According to investigators, personnel of the Don Bosco Police Community Precinct immediately responded to Barangay 68 in Tondo after receiving a 911 report about gunfire in the area.

A 46-year-old female resident told police that the suspect, who was allegedly intoxicated, appeared in front of their home while looking for his girlfriend. He later entered the victim’s residence, allegedly pointed a firearm at her and fired a shot at the ground, causing fear and alarm among residents.

Responding police later conducted a follow-up operation that led to the suspect’s arrest at his residence in Barangay 121, also in Tondo.

Authorities recovered from the suspect a 9-mm pistol, a magazine loaded with five live rounds, one fired slug, a firearm license and a License to Own and Possess Firearms.

Police said the suspect was informed of his constitutional rights in Tagalog and chose to remain silent. He was brought to the Gat Andres Bonifacio Medical Center for mandatory physical examination.

The PNP said documents are being prepared for inquest proceedings before the Manila Prosecutor’s Office.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. warned that authority to possess firearms must not be used to intimidate others or disturb public order.

“The PNP will not tolerate irresponsible firearm use, especially when it endangers innocent lives and disturbs public order. Accountability applies to everyone regardless of profession or affiliation,” Nartatez said.

“Hindi lisensya ang posisyon para gawin ang gusto mo. Ang sinumang lalabag sa batas ay mananagot,” he added.

Police said the incident underscored the importance of public reporting through the Unified 911 system, which enabled authorities to respond quickly and prevent further disturbance in the community.
