The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), working alongside local government units, and partner emergency responders, evacuated 151 coastal residents in Ilocos Sur on the evening of August 5 as Tropical Storm Maymay brought heavy rains and dangerous sea conditions to Northern Luzon.
In the municipality of Santa, the joint response team safely transferred 25 families, comprising 100 individuals, from Barangay Tabuculan to a municipal evacuation center.
Meanwhile, in Tagudin, responders brought 16 families, totaling to 51 individuals, from Barangays Farola and Libtong to the regional evacuation center.
In total, 41 families were safely relocated temporarily to government shelters across the province.
The PCG said the pre-emptive evacuation reflects its commitment to disaster preparedness and interagency coordination under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s Bagong Pilipinas vision.
