The Bureau of Customs (BOC) lauded the Port of Iloilo’s move to destroy seized and forfeited cigarettes through crushing and dumping at the Iloilo City Sanitary Landfill in Brgy. Calajunan, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.

District of Iloilo Collector Noli Santua, Jr. led members of the Auction and Cargo Disposal Unit (ACDU) and Condemnation Committee in the disposal of 6,345 reams of assorted cigarette brands using heavy equipment.

The disposal was also witnessed by representatives from the ESS–Customs Police Division, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service, Commission on Audit, Environmental Management Bureau Region 6, Iloilo City Environment and Natural Resources Office, and Iloilo City General Services Office.

BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno said the agency will continue to conduct similar disposal methods to prevent illegal goods from re-entering the market and to support the Bureau’s campaign against smuggling and unlawful trade.
