Police units tasked with locating and arresting fugitive Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa have been instructed to adhere strictly to human rights protocols and maintain non-violent tactics as the search intensifies following the expiration of a surrender deadline.
The command came after the one-week ultimatum issued by PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. for the lawmaker to give himself up to authorities lapsed on Friday.
Dela Rosa, himself a former head of the national police force, is facing an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court in connection with his alleged involvement in the Duterte administration’s anti-illegal drug campaign.
“I have directed all personnel to remain professional, respect human rights, and exercise maximum restraint while carrying out their lawful duties,” Nartatez said in a statement on Friday.
Despite Dela Rosa’s high profile and previous leadership within the law enforcement institution, police officials asserted that procedures will proceed impartially and without special consideration.
“Our duty is to uphold the law without fear or favor, regardless of a person’s position, influence, or political affiliation,” Nartatez said.
Nartatez noted that operating teams will carry out the arrest strictly in accordance with legal mandates and established procedures.
“Our operating units will remain focused, will exercise sound judgment, and ensure that every action prioritizes public safety while avoiding unnecessary confrontation,” Nartatez also said.
The police leadership reiterated that Dela Rosa’s political standing will not alter operational execution, emphasizing that law enforcement units remain committed to impartiality and protecting individual rights.
