PNP Chief Credits High Rating to Reform Push

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. credited the PNP’s reform and peace and order programs after receiving a high score in the latest nationwide “Boses ng Bayan” Index of Governance survey.

The RPMD Foundation Inc. survey, conducted from April 1 to 8 among 5,000 respondents, gave Nartatez a 78.8 percent overall governance score, based on a 78.5 percent trust rating and a 79.1 percent performance rating.

Nartatez said the results reflect public recognition of the work of police personnel nationwide, not a personal achievement.

“The recent governance and trust ratings are a welcome affirmation of the hard work of every police officer in the field. This is not a personal achievement but a reflection of the collective efforts of the Philippine National Police in serving the public with integrity and professionalism,” he said.

He said the rating also serves as a reminder for the PNP to further improve its service, strengthen accountability, and ensure professionalism in police operations.

“We thank the public for their trust. We take this as a continuing responsibility to improve our service, strengthen accountability, and ensure that every police action reflects fairness, respect for human rights, and genuine public service,” Nartatez said.

The PNP said its reform efforts will continue to focus on community policing, stronger barangay-level engagement, and stricter internal disciplinary mechanisms.

Nartatez also ordered police units to intensify local engagement and ensure that public trust translates into sustained performance across the organization.
