PBBM Calls for Stronger Protection of Youth After Recent School Tragedies

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Saturday called on Filipinos to step up protection for the country’s youth, following a series of recent tragedies involving students.

In the 282nd episode of his BBM Vlog, the President addressed the nation not only as its leader but as a concerned parent, saying, “Nakakadurog talaga ng puso.

He cited incidents ranging from the Tacloban school shooting to two stabbing cases in Cavite and the deaths of student-athletes during a team-building activity, adding, “Maprotektahan laban sa kapabayaan.

Marcos emphasized that schools should remain places of learning and growth, not environments where students or parents fear for safety. He directed agencies in education, police, health, and local government to “higit pang palakasin ang mga hakbang para sa kaligtasan ng mga mag-aaral sa buong bansa.”

He also reminded parents and guardians to remain actively involved in their children’s lives. On the role of teachers and school officials, he said, “Dapat ipagpatuloy ng mga guro ang kanilang tungkulin, hindi lamang bilang tagapagturo, kundi bilang mga gabay at tagapayo.”

To students, he offered reassurance: “Mahalaga ang inyong buhay. To parents, he advised valuing even simple conversations with their children: “Minsan, ang pinakamahalagang proteksyong maibigay natin sa ating mga anak ay ang ating oras, atensyon, at pag-unawa.”

Concluding his message, the President said, “Sapagkat ang tunay na lakas ng ating bansa ay nakasalalay sa kaligtasan, kapakanan, at mga pangarap ng susunod na henerasyon. Maraming salamat po. Magbuhay ang kabataang Pilipino. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas.”
