The 2026 Palarong Pambansa opened in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur with a call for young Filipino athletes to dream bigger, work harder and carry the values of sports beyond the playing field.
This year’s national youth sports competition, happening from May 24 to 31, brings together thousands of student-athletes from different regions of the country.
In a video message, House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III said the Palarong Pambansa should serve as an inspiration for more young Filipinos to believe in their talent and potential.
“Nawa’y magsilbing inspirasyon ang Palarong Pambansa upang mas marami pang kabataan ang mangarap, magsikap, at maniwala sa kanilang kakayahan,” he said.
The event was described as more than a battle for medals, but also a celebration of discipline, teamwork, sacrifice and perseverance among young athletes.
Sports, the Speaker said, help build character by teaching resilience, leadership and fighting spirit, qualities that participants can bring not only to the competition but also to their own lives.
“Dito nahuhubog ang resiliency, leadership, at fighting spirit na dadalhin ninyo hindi lamang sa laro kundi maging sa buhay,” he said.
The participating athletes were also reminded that reaching the Palarong Pambansa is already a major achievement, regardless of whether they bring home medals.
“Hindi man lahat ay mag-uuwi ng medalya, lahat ng nakarating dito ay maituturing nang panalo dahil sa dedikasyon at tiyagang inyong ipinakita,” he added.
The message also recognized the role of coaches, teachers, parents, volunteers and organizers who helped guide and support the athletes on their journey to the national games.
The athletes were urged to compete with passion, play with integrity and represent their schools, communities and regions with pride and honor.
