All properties owned by married couples must be declared in the statements of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALNs) regardless of which spouse actually purchased the said property.
The requirement ensures complete transparency regarding wealth accumulated during marriage, closing potential loopholes in public financial disclosures. Officials must list all conjugal and community assets to provide an accurate reflection of their total net worth.
“The law requires full disclosure of all assets acquired during marriage,” the Ombudsman said.
The anti-graft office also said that failure to disclose spousal property, regardless of individual ownership or source of funds, constitutes a violation of public disclosure rules.
