Economic expansion and transparent governance will anchor the national government’s continuing partnership with Mindanao as the Bangsamoro region transitions into full democratic parliamentary rule following its inaugural legislative session.
Speaking during the historic first session of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Parliament, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. pledged sustained central support for regional self-governance while calling on elected representatives to honor generational sacrifices through humble leadership.
The legislative milestone saw BARMM Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua officially elected to head the regional executive after securing a majority vote within the parliament.
Emphasizing that the success of the autonomous region reflects the progress of the entire nation, national leadership pledged to help expand economic prospects and strengthen local democratic institutions.
“To the Members of this Parliament: Never forget the struggle that people have endured. Serve with humility. Carry the hopes of many generations and honor their sacrifices through good governance,” Marcos said.
The President stressed that establishing a resilient government requires framing responsive legislation, delivering essential public services, and managing public funds with accountability to spur regional development.
“I reaffirm the National Government’s support for Bangsamoro autonomy and democratic institutions. We stand ready to work with the government formally constituted by this newly elected Parliament,” Marcos said.
“To the people of the Bangsamoro: the National Government stands with you. Your success is the success of the country. Hinding-hindi namin kayo pababayaan,” he also said.
Central to the administrative agenda is translating peace milestones into tangible socio-economic gains for local communities across Mindanao.
“Above all, it means ensuring that the dividends of peace are felt in the daily lives of every Bangsamoro family,” Marcos noted.
