House Prosecution Sets June 15 Filing of Pre-Trial Brief in Duterte Impeachment Case

The House prosecution team will submit its pre-trial brief on Monday, June 15, as preparations intensify for the pre-trial conference in the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte.

House prosecutor and Manila Rep. Joel Chua said the submission is part of procedural preparations ahead of the Senate impeachment court’s pre-trial conference scheduled for June 18, which will precede the formal trial set for July 6.

The pre-trial conference will be held at the Senate and is expected to focus on procedural agreements between the prosecution and defense, including stipulation of facts, marking of evidence, and identification of witnesses.

Chua said the proceedings are designed to streamline the trial proper and prevent delays once hearings begin.

“Dito po magkakaroon ng stipulation of facts, marking of evidence, at dito rin po ilalahad ang mga magiging testigo namin kung sino-sino,” he said.

He added that the House prosecution panel, working with private prosecutors, will coordinate with the defense team during the conference.

The prosecution is currently preparing a witness list of around 25 individuals, though Chua said the roster is still subject to final review and validation.

He said most of the witnesses being considered are linked to allegations involving confidential funds and unexplained wealth, which are central to the case.

Chua also confirmed that additional high-profile witnesses are being evaluated but declined to disclose identities while preparations are ongoing.

The impeachment trial is scheduled to begin on July 6 following completion of pre-trial proceedings.
