DOH Launches Digital Medical Aid System for Faster Patient Assistance

The Department of Health (DOH) has rolled out a new online system designed to streamline access to government medical assistance, following a directive from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to improve the delivery of healthcare support for Filipinos.

The program, called the Electronic Medical Assistance to Indigent and Financially Incapacitated Patients (eMAIFIP), is integrated into the government’s eGov Super App, allowing patients to apply for medical aid without undergoing lengthy queues or in-person processing in hospitals.

Under the system, applicants—whether admitted or outpatient—may submit requests through eMAIFIP-accredited hospitals using only a valid government-issued ID and either a hospital charge slip, price quotation, or billing statement. All applications are processed digitally, with approvals and updates sent via SMS, email, or app notifications.

Once approved, beneficiaries receive a QR code reference number that must be presented to hospital social workers to facilitate release of assistance.

The program covers a range of medical needs, including Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved medicines, laboratory and diagnostic tests, dialysis treatment, professional fees, and other clinically necessary medical and dental procedures.

The DOH said the platform is intended to reduce administrative delays during medical emergencies while expanding access to financial assistance for indigent and financially constrained patients. Hospital social workers will also be available to assist patients who are not familiar with digital systems.

Health authorities are encouraging the public to download the application in advance to ensure smoother access during urgent medical situations.
