The Philippine Navy reaffirmed its commitment to maritime cooperation and regional stability during the official visit of Vice Admiral Jose Ma. Ambrosio Q. Ezpeleta, Flag Officer In Command, to Japan from May 18 to 21, 2026.

Invited by Admiral Saito Akira, Chief of Staff of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), Vice Admiral Ezpeleta led the PN delegation in a series of high-level engagements aimed at enhancing naval diplomacy, interoperability, and strategic partnership.

The visit included an Honor Guard and Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Ministry of Defense in Camp Ichigaya, followed by bilateral discussions on regional security and maritime cooperation, emphasizing both navies’ shared commitment to peace and stability in the region.

The delegation conducted operational visits to key JMSDF facilities in Yokosuka, including the Maritime Operations Center and platforms such as JS Ohnami (destroyer), SS Yaeshio (submarine), and JS Awaji (minesweeper). These engagements highlighted growing collaboration in maritime domain awareness, capability development, interoperability, and professional military exchanges in support of a rules-based Indo-Pacific.

The official visit also reinforced defense diplomacy and people-to-people ties through cultural engagements and a courtesy call on Philippine Ambassador to Japan Her Excellency Mylene J. Garcia-Albano.

Bound by shared values and common maritime objectives, the PN and JMSDF continue to strengthen their enduring partnership to promote peace, stability, and security across the Indo-Pacific.
