Cop in Viral Rider Case Faces Lesser Charge

The prosecutor’s office has dismissed the frustrated murder and malicious mischief complaints filed against a Quezon City police officer accused of pushing a motorcycle rider in Pasig City.

Atty. Ariel Inton confirmed that prosecutors instead recommended the filing of a lesser charge for slight physical injuries against the police officer, with bail set at P3,000.

The case stemmed from a viral video showing the police officer allegedly pushing a motorcycle rider while they were traveling along a road in Pasig City.

The incident drew public attention online and prompted calls for a more serious case against the officer. Earlier, National Police Commission Vice Chairperson and Executive Officer Ralph Calinisan pushed for the filing of a frustrated murder complaint following a press conference attended by the police officer involved and the chief of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD)-Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit.

However, after reviewing the available evidence and statements, the prosecutor’s office found no sufficient basis to pursue frustrated murder and malicious mischief charges.

The complaint was instead downgraded to slight physical injuries.
