DOE Gains Global Recognition for Philippine Fuel Standards

The Department of Energy (DOE) has earned international recognition after Philippine-developed standards for petroleum products and facilities were featured by ASTM International, one of the world’s leading organizations for technical and industrial standards.

The DOE, through its Oil Industry Management Bureau, said the recognition highlights the country’s continuing efforts to develop and promote Philippine National Standards that support cleaner fuels, reduced emissions, safer petroleum facilities, and stronger energy resilience.

The article published by ASTM International featured the DOE’s work in aligning local petroleum standards with international best practices, reflecting the Philippines’ push for safer and more sustainable energy systems.

DOE representatives Ma. Cristina Carmela Manocan and Eruel Bicol previously participated in the ASTM Technical Visitor Grant Program, which supported initiatives related to the development and improvement of energy standards in the country.

The DOE said the international recognition underscores the Philippines’ commitment to energy security, sustainability, and globally harmonized standards. It also reflects the expertise and collaborative work of government, industry, and technical stakeholders in advancing world-class energy standards.

The agency said the promotion of stronger fuel and facility standards forms part of broader efforts to protect consumers, improve environmental performance, and ensure that petroleum products and infrastructure meet higher safety and quality benchmarks.

By strengthening standards for the oil industry, the DOE said the Philippines is better positioned to support cleaner energy use, reduce risks in petroleum operations, and reinforce public confidence in the country’s energy sector.
