A loose firearm was voluntarily surrendered to the Philippine National Police–Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) during an operation in Lamut, Ifugao.

The PNP-HPG said personnel of the Provincial Highway Patrol Team (PHPT) Ifugao were conducting validation operations related to a wanted person in Barangay Poblacion East when the barangay chairperson informed them that one of her constituents had turned over an unregistered firearm.

Acting on the report, PNP-HPG personnel proceeded to the barangay hall at around 2:30 pm, where they received the firearm and held a dialogue with local officials on community safety and law enforcement cooperation.

The surrendered weapon was identified as a Sentry .38-caliber revolver with no visible serial number.

Authorities said the firearm is now under the custody of PHPT Ifugao and will be turned over to the Ifugao Provincial Forensic Unit for technical examination and proper disposition.

PNP-HPG Director Police Brig. Gen. Rommel Batangan said the surrender reflected the importance of public cooperation in the campaign against loose firearms.

“The voluntary surrender of loose firearms reflects growing public cooperation and awareness in supporting law enforcement efforts to promote peace, safety, and responsible firearm control,” Batangan said.

The PNP-HPG urged the public to continue coordinating with police and local officials to help curb the spread of loose firearms and other unlawful activities.
