Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian went to Bicol today to lead the agency’s monitoring of ongoing social protection programs and disaster response efforts in the region.
Gatchalian is in Bicol with other agency officials to personally witness the implementation of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) activities in Sorsogon province, including the distribution of emergency cash transfers to qualified beneficiaries.
The visit also includes an inspection of conditions at the Tent City in Albay, where families displaced by the continued unrest of Mayon Volcano are currently taking shelter.
“The Secretary’s presence underscores the agency’s commitment to ensure that assistance reaches affected communities efficiently and that the welfare of internally displaced persons is closely monitored,” the DSWD said in a statement.
Authorities continue to maintain alert status around Mayon Volcano as volcanic activity persists, prompting precautionary evacuations in nearby areas. The DSWD has been coordinating with local government units to provide relief assistance and ensure the safety of residents affected by the situation.
