Uninterrupted Police Operations Assured Amid Possible Rotational Brownouts

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has assured uninterrupted law enforcement operations even as the government prepares for possible rotational brownouts in off-grid and remote areas due to a reported diesel supply shortage affecting power generation facilities.

PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said regional and provincial directors have been directed to immediately secure fuel reserves and ensure the functionality of backup power systems in all police installations.

The directive follows a warning from the National Power Corporation’s Small Power Utilities Group (SPUG), which said diesel constraints could lead to rotational power interruptions in island provinces and geographically isolated communities that are not connected to the main power grid.

“Our priority is operational readiness. That’s why I have directed all regional and provincial directors to maximize their fuel reserves and ensure that backup power systems are functional,” Nartatez said.

He emphasized that police stations must remain fully operational despite potential disruptions, particularly in areas where electricity supply is already unstable.

To address possible risks, Nartatez ordered field units to inspect and maintain generator sets, ensure emergency hotlines remain powered, and activate alternative energy sources where available. Command centers have also been instructed to prioritize uninterrupted communication systems.

“We acknowledge na may epekto ito sa visibility and operations lalo na sa gabi. But we have contingency measures in place. Hindi titigil ang patrol operations,” he said, adding that adjustments in deployment schedules and the use of mobile lighting will help maintain visibility during night operations.

The PNP chief also directed units in remote and high-risk areas to strengthen satellite and alternative communication links to ensure continuous coordination with national headquarters even in the event of total blackouts.

He said the measures are part of broader efforts to sustain public safety operations and ensure rapid police response despite infrastructure limitations in isolated communities.
