Six individuals, including two active police officers, were arrested in an operation against alleged illegal mining activities in Opol, Misamis Oriental, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported.

Authorities said the suspects were intercepted while transporting suspected mineral ores without proper permits, in violation of Republic Act No. 7942 or the Philippine Mining Act of 1995.

The joint police operation led to the recovery of 58 sacks of alleged unprocessed mineral ore valued at about P290,000. Also recovered were a vehicle, firearms, ammunition, communication equipment, and other tools believed to have been used in the activity.

Among those apprehended were two police personnel assigned in Davao de Oro, along with four civilian companions. The PNP has since ordered the relief of the two officers following their arrest.

The PNP said a full investigation is underway, with both administrative and criminal charges being prepared against the suspects. Authorities added that command responsibility will also be examined to determine if supervisors may be held liable.

PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. condemned the involvement of uniformed personnel, stressing that the organization will not tolerate wrongdoing within its ranks.

“Walang puwang sa PNP ang sinumang lalabag sa batas. Walang kinikilingan—kahit pulis, mananagot,” Nartatez said.

He added that swift action will be taken to ensure accountability as part of the agency’s internal cleansing efforts.

The PNP reiterated its commitment to discipline and integrity, underscoring its ongoing campaign for a more accountable police force under its reform program.
