Crackdown Intensifies on Police Personnel Linked to Illegal Activities

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has intensified its crackdown on personnel allegedly involved in illegal activities, ordering expanded intelligence monitoring and deeper investigations into suspected rogue officers.

PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. issued the directive following allegations that a police major acted as a protector of online cockfighting operations and other unlawful activities on Negros Island.

The officer has been removed from his post and placed under restrictive custody as authorities widen the probe into the suspected gambling network.

Nartatez likened erring personnel to “termites” that could undermine the institution from within, stressing the PNP’s commitment to uncover those involved and hold them accountable.

To strengthen the campaign, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has been directed to coordinate closely with the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) to ramp up intelligence-gathering against police personnel engaged in illicit activities.

Police commanders nationwide were also reminded to strictly supervise their subordinates, with Nartatez warning they will be held liable under the principle of command responsibility if violations occur under their watch.

The PNP chief said he will personally oversee the investigation to ensure both criminal and administrative cases are pursued while due process is observed.

Despite the allegations, Nartatez maintained that only a small number of officers are involved and called on the public and the police force to work together to root them out and preserve the integrity of the organization.
