The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has assured consumers that prices of basic necessities and prime commodities remain stable, with no expected price hikes leading up to the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, locally known as Undas.
Trade Secretary Cristina Roque stated that prices for essential items, particularly candles and bottled water, have held steady as families prepare for the annual tradition.
Roque emphasized that the department is actively monitoring major supermarkets and retail outlets across the country to enforce price compliance.
DTI said manufacturers have not submitted any formal requests to adjust or increase their product prices.
The agency issued a stern warning to supermarkets, retailers, and merchants against overpricing or selling items beyond the suggested retail price (SRP), warning that non-compliant businesses will face corresponding fines and administrative penalties under the law.
The DTI reiterated its commitment to sustained price monitoring operations nationwide to safeguard consumer rights and ensure the steady supply of reasonably priced essential goods throughout the Undas season.
