Nearly a year after Kyla released “Next Episode,” the album has yet to reach its final form.
What began as an 11-track digital record in October 2025 has since moved onto vinyl, produced another visual release for one of its tracks, and is now being prepared for an expanded edition with additional songs.
The continuing rollout comes seven years after Kyla’s previous full-length album, making “Next Episode” both a return to the album format and a project that has remained active well beyond its original release.
Its physical edition actually began reaching listeners months before the latest round of attention around the record.
Backspacer Records first offered the vinyl at Kyla’s “Hanggang Ngayon” concert on July 3, with fulfillment of preordered copies beginning July 10.
It is the first of Kyla’s albums to be issued on vinyl.
For the singer, who grew up when physical records remained part of how listeners encountered music, the format carries a different value from having an album available solely through streaming.
“As a batang 90s, as a millennial, nare-relish ko yung ganitong pagkakataon na nagkakaroon uli ng physical copies ng albums, especially ngayon kasi lahat nasa streaming,” Kyla said.
“Iba yung value as when you have a physical copy kasi you grow with the songs,” she added.
The vinyl preserves the original 11-song album across two sides, beginning with “Stand Up” and ending with “Back to Bliss.”
But Kyla is also continuing to work on the material beyond its physical release.
“Bring Your Jacket,” the second song on the record, has been given its own visualizer through Star Music, placing the track back in focus months after listeners first encountered it as part of the album.
Kyla said the song deals with expressing affection without necessarily having to say it directly.
“It’s a song about the many ways you can say ‘I love you’ to someone that you like or you love without having to say the words ‘I love you,’” she said.
Another track, “Stand Up,” has meanwhile earned a nomination for Best R&B Recording at the 39th Awit Awards.
Kyla said the nomination was particularly welcome after some time away from the awards’ nominees list.
“Masaya ako kasi parang ang tagal na since no’ng huling nagkaroon ako ng nomination. I’m just hoping for the best whatever the outcome is,” she said.
There is still more material planned for the record.
Kyla has confirmed that work is underway on a deluxe edition of “Next Episode,” which will expand the original album with new songs.
No release date or complete tracklist for the expanded edition has been announced.
That leaves “Next Episode” in an unusual position almost a year after its debut: its original 11 songs are already available digitally and on vinyl, individual tracks continue to receive new releases, while the album itself is still being expanded.
