Globe Telecom announced on Monday that it is providing free call, text and data roaming services to customers in Indonesia following a powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck off Flores Island in the eastern part of the country.
The massive quake caused widespread damage, triggering landslides, power outages and structural destruction to homes and public infrastructure, while leaving thousands of residents displaced as rescue and assessment operations remain ongoing.
Through its “Alagang Globe” program, the telecommunications company is offering affected subscribers in Indonesia 15 minutes of incoming and outgoing calls, 15 text messages to all networks and 1 GB of data valid for seven days at no extra cost to ensure vital lines of communication remain open.
“During emergencies, staying connected becomes even more important, especially for Filipinos who are away from home. We want to help our customers in Indonesia reach their loved ones and maintain vital lines of communication during this difficult time,” said Paula Rivera-Castillo, Globe Senior Director for International Business.
Globe stated that no prior registration is required, as the emergency roaming package will automatically be credited to eligible customers detected in the country. Subscribers need only connect to Globe’s local roaming partner networks, Telkomsel or Indosat and wait for a confirmation message indicating the service is active.
To place calls under the package, customers should dial the “+” sign followed by the country code, area code and phone number. For text messaging, users must input “+” followed by the country code and mobile number. For data access, subscribers are advised to turn on mobile data and data roaming in their device settings only after receiving the official activation message.
